Among the action poses characterizing many different statues by Bowen Design, the one of Thor stands out for its grandeur, the originality and a spectacular visual impact. I do not know how many artists would ever think of realizing the dynamic effect of a rotating hammer (certainly a detail of more comic that sculptural nature, here digitally drawn by Avinash Hedge), but I doubt that anyone would be able to obtain a better result than the one you may admire in this incredible piece! Not surprisingly, the response of the collectors has been immediate and the market prices of the statue, since its release and in spite of a large edition size of 2750 samples, are always remarkable. Released in 2012, the Thor Action simply looks like the materialization of the table of a Comic book and exhibits (at the highest levels) all the basic features of a great collectible. The God of Thunder is located on a high rock, the evident location of some ancient and epic battle, with the bust slightly backwards and the left arm stretched forward, aiming at a likely target; the right arm, on the contrary, is bent, and the hand holds the mythical Mjolnir in a vortical rotation. The effect, very faithful to Comics, is realized with a translucent disc where the hammer is sculpted at different angles in a circular sequence (at variable degrees of shade on the corresponding handles) and where a single head of the hammer shows the gray color of the actual position. The originality and the scenic design of such a special effect immediately catch the eyes and give a superb dynamism to the figure. It, however, is certainly not the only strength of this statue! The sculpt of the long coat is simply impressive: shaken by a tempestuous wind, it develops completely in side and is full of folds and ripples on both sides, colored with a beautiful shade of red and superbly blended. As obvious for the character, the body is statuesque and slender, with incredibly powerful muscles on the arms and a broad chest. The sculpt of the face is well-finished (note the wrinkles coming down from the nose or around the wide open mouth and the frowning face at the eyes level) and painted with care, with pale blue pupils, a blond hair and bushy eyebrows. The manufacturing of the side wings of the helmet, slightly backward and long almost up to the chin of the hero, is amazing. Even the chromatic tones are in perfect harmony with the original tables of Comics, as in the case of the blue and silver hoops of costume and the yellow-black of the boots. And that's not all! The high rock acting as a pillar to the character is a multitude of top-class details which enhance the aesthetics of the whole: the enormous skull of some bewhiskered ancient titan (still decked out from his helmet), a bronze shield finely decorated with a stylized eagle, the remains of an old mace, a skull lying on the rocks and also the typical initials of Randy Bowen. Everything is sculpted to perfection and colored in a successful purplish tone which fades into the gray of the rocky ground. The piece also includes an alternative hand with the hammer in the more classic (static) position that allows to change the display, and it is no coincidence that even removing the awesome disc of the rotating Mjolnir, the statue loses nothing of its impressive aesthetic impact. As mentioned, the market prices of the Thor Action Statue are usually notable. Due to the high quality and the undisputable beauty of the piece, this is not surprising and it is probable that, over the years, it may become one of the most sought-after and prohibitive pieces for all collectors.
